And frankly, from the start, our fears became reality, the series didn’t follow the horror aspect of the comics, but did follow the fantasy and drama. But once I got used to it, it got better, because the good casting and storylines turned out to be quite strong.

The story managed to surprise and the chemistry between the actors made you empathize with the Locke’s. There were very strong bad guys, like Dodge (Laysla De Oliveira) started very strong and set the example as a demon. Eden (Hallea Jones) and Gabe (Griffin Gluck) then went one step further, with the two of them they could have taken over all of Mathesson had it not been for the Locke’s stopping them.

With this third season and thus also the last, Locke & Key manages to improve for the second time after they bettered with season two. Where they started with the second season, they now know how to finish it in a beautiful way. And as sad as it is to say goodbye to the Locke family, I’m so glad they did it with dignity. Because not many shows get the chance to close nicely, but thanks to showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill, and their decision to shoot seasons 2 and 3 back to back, the show has been given that opportunity propably.

Locke and Key. His wickedness, which we glimpsed before, is fully manifested in the third season. He could have been a little more gruesome, but in the end he’s a great demon who only wants one thing, and goes straight for it along with his summoned cronies. When the Locke’s get in his way, we get to see a nice cat and mouse game again like with Eden and Gabe in the previous season.

A second positive thing, that struck me, was that there is less ’teen drama’ involved, the Locke’s seem to have matured — not counting Bode (Jackson Robert Scott), who is, as always, his playful self. Tyler (Connor Jessup) had already chosen to forget the magic in season two, which causes some annoyance among the family members, but this is not the same drama as between Kinsey (Emilia Jones), Scot (Petrice Jones) and Gabe.

Locke And Key. I would have liked to know more about those two, and how they got to where they were trapped. Maybe in the beginning there was still the plan to add another season, and they thought maybe to tie up later some loose ends. The same problem comes back here again with Ellie (Sherri Saum) and her return through the Omega door at the ending of the second season, we don’t get much explanation about this, and actually you are left with more questions than answers.

It is noticeable that fewer actors are participating and that the setting is almost mainly around the Keyhouse, probably there was less budget this season; But that’s no problem because we also get what we came for: Magic of the keys! New keys are introduced again, together with some old and it’s always fun to watch their magic. And in the end, it’s all about the Locke’s and the Keyhouse. This third season was exciting and interesting and how the last episode blends together is certainly well done. Probably because Joe and Carlton wrote the penultimate episode themselves.

Locke and Key.
