While we’re talkin’ horror films, you all got out to see\u00a0Hereditary<\/em>, didn’t you? Even in a golden era for the genre (we’ve been spoiled by great fright flicks in the last decade), this one is in a category of its own. It belongs on the same shelf with\u00a0The Exorcist, The Changeling<\/em>, and\u00a0It Follows<\/em>, classics of terror and suspense that challenge the viewer intellectually as well as emotionally. True masterpieces are rare and only come along maybe once or twice a decade. This is one.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

My sixth book,\u00a0Strange Weather<\/em>, is out in paperback. For the most part, these stories were fun to write. Of course, I’m not sure that matters. I literally-not-metaphorically went crazy writing\u00a0HORNS\u00a0<\/em>and that turned out pretty well.\u00a0<\/em>Still, it makes me glad that people are discovering a book that gave me such pleasure to work on. Hope you have a blast with it.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

I’ve been keeping busy creatively: I’ve got a good new short story going, but it’s splitting time with a good new novel. At least I hope they’re good. You’re never really able to judge yourself — the verdict on any given piece of work belongs to the reader, not the writer. Maybe it’s more accurate to say that I’m enjoying the work and hoping for the best.<\/p>\n

I’m also in talks with friends about various comic projects and I think there’s a chance 2019 and 2020 could have me deep in the funny book business again. Every time I read another jaw-dropping issue of\u00a0Saga<\/em>\u00a0I want to get back in the game. I don’t know how BKV and Fiona Staples do it: how they manage to break my heart every time out.<\/p>\n

On a practical level, if Netflix follows through on\u00a0the straight-to-series order for a\u00a0Locke & Key<\/em>\u00a0TV show, then I guess I’d like to take a swing at\u00a0World War Key: Revolution<\/em>, a book Gabe and I have been talking about for years. It would be the best possible timing for a return to Keyhouse.<\/p>\n

Also on the TV front, there’s been some exciting preliminary casting news for AMC’s\u00a0NOS4A2<\/em>. I can’t wait to see what’s (who’s) next. Holy shit, guys, a\u00a0NOS4A2<\/em>\u00a0show. How crazy? Seriously, how f’n crazy??<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

Scribe Jason Ciaramella takes Eric’s filthy cape and filthy mind out for another unforgettable ride, and artist Zach Howard delivers some of the most grisly and stunning pages to be found anywhere.
