The story starts as follows:
\n<\/strong>Nurse Thorntorn dropped into the long-term-care ward a little bfore eight with a hot bag og blood for Charlie Manx.
\nShe was coasting on autopilot, her thoughts not on her work. She had finally made up her mind to buy her son, Josiah, the Nintendo DS he wanted, and was calculating wheter she could get to Toys \u201cR\u201d Us after her shift, before they closed.
\nShe has been resisting the impulse for a few weeks, on philosophical grounds. She didn\u2019t really care if all his friends had one. She just didn\u2019t like the idea of those handheld video-game systems that the kids carries with them everywhere.<\/p>\n
